P2 Babysitting Experience

(Note: If you know "the best babysitter in the whole world" and you want to recommend he/she as a part-time p2 crew babysitter, send us a note...beware, we have high standards)
Hi parents! My name is Lisa and I'm the p2 crew chief. I'm 27 and live in NYC.

Day job: Acting and teaching kids

What she loves about kids: They just bring a smile to my face. I love seeing them learn something new and I love entertaining them and seeing how they interact with each other. It's fun to be silly with them!

When she's not grooving with kids: Chances are, Lisa can be found performing or auditioning for her next role. She also makes sure to fit in time with her buddies.

What she loves about parent P-L-A-Y: It's a great idea for parents to get some down time while knowing that their kids are being taken care of in just the next room.

Extra credit: For a girl who calls the Chicago suburbs home, Lisa considers herself a New Yorker thanks to all the families she has gotten to work with. She is a trusted sitter for four families on the Upper East and Upper West Sides. She also spent many a summer working as a day camp counselor and a gymnastics coach for underprivileged kids.
Hi there! My name is Kristin. I'm 24 and also live in NYC.

Day job: Acting and performing on Spirit Cruises

What she loves about kids: I love their imagination, not to mention their unending energy and zest for life.

When she's not entertaining cruise ship passengers: Kristin loves reading, movies and walks in Central Park.

What she loves about parent P-L-A-Y: Parents need more fun and relaxation. Knowing that their children are having fun in a safe environment while interacting with other kids is a good concept. I enjoy the energy that surrounds parent P-L-A-Y and am happy to play an integral role.

Extra credit: Hailing from Berkely, Massachusetts, Kristin has been babysitting since she was 11. She has taken a Safe Sitter course, knows CPR and spent four years as a counselor at a theater camp teaching Shakespeare to kids ages four and up. She also belts out a mean version of The Itsy Bitsy Spider.
Hi parents! My name is Mariah. I'm 22 and live on the Upper East Side.

Day job: Studying mathematics and philosophy at NYU

What she loves about kids: I have a six year old brother back home that I don't get the chance to hang with all that often. Spending time with kids makes me feel more at home in New York City.

When she's not mastering quantum physics: Mariah can be found cooking up the ultimate chocolate chip cookie. She also prides herself on creating a version of the infamous butter beer from Harry Potter.

What she loves about parent P-L-A-Y: Working at a parent P-L-A-Y event is an adventure. I love that both parents and kids have the opportunity to really kick up their heels and have fun. Growing up, my mom always insisted that we find time to really have fun. parent P-L-A-Y makes it easy.

Extra credit: A native Nantucketer, Mariah started babysitting at her Nana's daycare center when she was 11. At 13, she earned her stripes by babysitting a cousin and spent most of high school and college babysitting and nannying either on Nantucket or the Upper East Side.
Hi! I am Kristen! I am 22 and live on the Upper West Side.

Day job: Actress, dancer and singer

What she loves about kids: Kids are so creative! They can truly make anything into an adventure- their energy and laughter is infectious! And they are always so eager to learn something new. I think adults can learn as much from kids as kids do from adults.

When she's not dancing and singing her heart out: Kristen loves to explore the city, go to the beach, do arts and crafts, and volunteer. This past October, Kristen captained a team at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk-a-thon in Central Park, where she and fellow P2 crew member Kristin raised money for a cure!

What she loves about parent P-L-A-Y: Parents deserve a LOT of credit; their job is the hardest in the world. And while parenting can be gratifying, EVERYONE deserves a little time off! I think it’s great that the parents can experience down time with each other, while their kids are safe and having a blast right nearby!

Extra credit: Growing up in Long Valley, NJ, Kristen started working with kids at age 10. She earned the nickname “Mary Poppins” from her baby-sitting clients because of the HUGE bag of crafts, games, and books she brings with her to each house. At 16, Kristen worked as a live-out nanny and tutor, and taught Beginner Dance Basics to tiny ballerinas ages 2-5 at her local dance academy. Kristen is thrilled to be living in the city and babysitting for new families, but she still finds time to keep in touch with all of her favorite little ones back home!
Hi! My name is Renda. I'm 24 and live in Tribeca.

Day job: Modeling

What she loves about kids: I love how smart and interesting kids are. They have so much to add and are always sharing new details that we often forget to notice.

When she's not modeling: Renda loves site seeing, meeting interesting people, traveling and exploring lower Manhattan.

What she loves about parent P-L-A-Y: I met so many fun and different parents at the last parent P-L-A-Y event and it was so refreshing to see them get some rest. The P2 Crew had so much fun playing with their children and The Sharp Things were such a good adition to the day's event. I love the energy at parent P-L-A-Y events.

Extra credit: A long way from Prague, Renda has been living in NY for several years and loves it. Although she misses her brother and family quite a bit, Renda enjoys all that the US has to offer. She's met some great people - both as a model and in everyday life. Renda's true passion and desire has always been as a pilot. She really aspires to learn aviation and flying airplanes.
Hi parents! My name is Brittany. I'm 19 and live in NYC.

Day job: Acting student at NYU

What she loves about kids: I love children because of their free spirits and innocent, natural curiosity. They aren’t afraid to question or explore and their minds are like little sponges begging to be filled. I'm fascinated by their perspective on the world and I love listening to the funny, surprising, and often very insightful things they have to say.

When she's not babysitting: Chances are, Brittany is hanging out with her friends, visiting museums, seeing plays and studying, of course. She also loves belting out a good Broadway show tune, taking dance classes, curling up with a good book, and watching 'Law & Order' reruns.

What she loves about parent P-L-A-Y: After babysitting for years, I’ve learned that as much as parents love and enjoy spending time with their kids, sometimes they need a break. I think parent P-L-A-Y is a fantastic concept, one in which both parents and kids can have a great time and enjoy themselves. Parents can have the break they need, knowing their children are safe and having an amazing time.

Extra credit: Hailing from small-town Destrehan, Louisiana, Brittany is a New York City transplant with a heart of gold. She started babysitting when she was 13. Since then, she has continued to baby-sit and has experience with children in various settings, including tutoring elementary school students and giving art workshops to summer camp kids throughout the state of Louisiana. As the oldest cousin in a very large extended family, all of whom live in/around New Orleans, Brittany was happily dubbed a 'designated babysitter.' For nearly a year and a half, she babysat her three-year-old cousin on a regular basis. They went to museums, parks and the zoo giving them plenty of time to really bond. She loved being 'her Britt' and enjoyed the time they spent, as the little girl put it, 'hangin’ out.'
Hi parents! My name is Ryann. I'm 19 and live in Manhattan.

Day job: Theater student at NYU

What do you love about kids: They say the darnedest things. I love babysitting and hanging out with kids because they are the most enthusiastic and honest people to be around. Plus, who doesn't love a good sing-a-long every now and again?

What do you love about parent P-L-A-Y: Parents should get a break. At Parent Play, the parents can relax and have fun while their kids do the same. What do you do when you're not studying: I try and soak up the city as much as possible. For a Midwestern girl, the museums and theaters provide endless entertainment.

Extra credit: Hailing from Wilmette, Illinois, Ryann babysat a ton when she was in high school. For as long as she can remember, she dreamed of coming to New York City for college. Lucky for us, NYU was her lead choice!

Hi parents! My name is Zandile. I'm 24 and live in Jersey City

Day job: fashion and beauty writer

What she loves about kids: I love their smiles and their friendliness and above everything I love how being around them makes me feel happy, giggly and goofy, like a kid again!

What do you love about parent P-L-A-Y: I love that it brings families together in a fun and exciting way!

What do you do when you're not writing: I hang out with my family. We love to cook a great meal, kick back and watch our favorite reality shows.

Extra credit: Originally from Ghana, West Africa, Zandile is one of the biggest ice cream lovers we know and she also prides herself on being the best big sister and best cousin in the world.

Hey! My name is Inés. I'm 19 and live in The Village.

Day job: Student at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts

What Inés loves about kids: Kids are honest, energetic and funny. All the good things about adults in a cute package.

When she's not in class: Inés knits, goes to the gym, reads, sees shows and sleeps!

What Inés loves about parent P-L-A-Y: The kids are smart and fun to play with. I like the friendly atmosphere, working with friends and having a good time with these amazing kids.

Extra credit: Inés was a gymnast from first grade to her senior year of high school. Back home in New Jersey, she works in a pediatric office and babysits occasionally. She taught improvisation at the Red Bank Cultural Center to children ages 3-10. She loves running around just as much as they do.
Hi Parents! My name is Emily and I'm new to the p2 crew. I am 22 and recently graduated from NYU. I live on the Upper East Side.

Day Job: Sales and Marketing Assistant at a publishing company

What Emily Loves About Kids: They have the best sense of humor. I love my job, but after a full week of being articulate and professional, I look forward to days spent making funny faces and singing silly songs. Nothing is more satisfying than teaching a little kid how to do something new.

When I'm Not Pitching New Books: You can usually find me on a park bench with a book (big surprise, since I work in publishing) or doing anything that involves being outside and enjoying the sunshine. I really enjoy traveling, and spend as much time as I can visiting my big sisters who live in California. Other interests include: all kinds of arts (and crafts), soft serve ice cream, the beach, shopping, and laughing with my friends.

What I Love About parent-PLAY: I love the idea of pampering the parents AND entertaining the kids... parent PLAY really is about celebrating the whole family. It's important to us that we not only entertain and care for the kids, but that we appreciate the overwhelming patience, love, and energy it takes to be a mom or dad.

Extra Credit: A native of a small rural town in Connecticut, finding ways to keep busy during my summer vacations was key. Since middle school, I always chose to spend my summer around kids. I spent three summers as a camp counselor at a YMCA day camp, and the following two as a teacher at a summer preschool program. Of course, plenty of great babysitting opportunities came along with those positions. I look forward to meeting all of your wonderful families here in New York City!
